Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: Position Start Date July 1, 2019. The Department of Broadcasting and Journalism at Western Illinois University seeks a motivated Chair with excellent collaborative and communication skills to lead a community of faculty and students in a diverse, accredited program offering bachelor of arts degrees in Broadcasting and Journalism with options in Advertising/Public Relations, Broadcast Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Sports Broadcasting. The Chair appointment is a one year (eleven month) appointment, 100% August-May and 50% June and July each year. Department chairs serve four year terms which are renewable by the Dean/Provost.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The faculty of Western Illinois University are represented by University Professionals of Illinois, Local 4100, and operate under a collective bargaining agreement. As such, the chair of the department administers the faculty according to definitions and articles of the collective bargaining agreement in matters of promotion, tenure, retention, assignment of duties, salaries, and other faculty-related issues. The Chair of the Department is not a member of the collective bargaining unit and reports directly to the Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication. The Chair of the Department will teach at least one course each semester in their area of expertise. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a PhD in the area of Broadcasting and Journalism and meet the qualifications for tenure at the rank of Full Professor. Additionally, a demonstrated record (6 year minimum) of continuing successful teaching and related experience in curriculum and departmental policy, as well as university policy, professional, service activities and research.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A preferred candidate is a faculty and student advocate with a strong commitment to diversity who exhibits the following: a documented history of excellence in scholarship/creative activity, a proven ability to implement recruitment and retention strategies to enrich program enrollment, experience with budgeting and development, professional experience in the broadcasting and journalism field, familiarity with program review, an understanding of working in an unionized environment, and an understanding of electronic/digital communication and social media.
For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body).

THE DEPARTMENT: The department offers bachelor of arts degrees in Broadcasting and Journalism with options in Advertising/Public Relations, Broadcast Production, Multimedia Journalism, and Sports Broadcasting. In addition, the department offers minors in Broadcasting and Journalism, Advertising/Public Relations, and Sports Broadcasting. The department is an energized program with dedicated students, who receive valuable hands-on experience and mentorship. Faculty and students are active in student organizations (National Broadcasting Society, National Association of Black Journalists, Students in Illinois News Broadcasters Association). Students are recognized yearly with state, regional and national awards (NBS Grand Prize, IBS National award, BEA Award of Excellence, NATAS Mid-America Crystal Pillar) for their productions. Students produce and announce live sporting events for ESPN using a high-definition remote truck. They also apply their skills in a HD control room and studio for our student-produced newscast, NEWS3 (2 times a week) and a morning news/talk show (bi-weekly). Students can also gain experience working on our FM radio station, WIUS. The department has a reputation for academic and professional excellence.
THE UNIVERSITY: Recognized as a "Best Midwestern College" by the Princeton Review for 15 consecutive years and as one of 36 public universities ranked a top tier "Best Midwestern University" by U.S.News & World Report, the WIU-Macomb and -Quad Cities campuses are comprised of accomplished faculty, state-of-the-art technology and facilities, and a wide range of academic and extracurricular opportunities.
Western is a comprehensive university offering 65 undergraduate, 38 graduate degree programs, and 2 doctoral programs which includes an Ed.D. in educational leadership and a Ph.D. in environmental science. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1, the University's 527 full-time faculty members teach 96 percent of all undergraduate and graduate courses.

WIU-Macomb, IL (Student Population: 7,235): A traditional, residential four-year campus with select graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, WIU-Macomb is located in the heart of west central Illinois in Macomb (population 20,000). Macomb is an Amtrak city with twice-daily service to Chicago. Macomb is located approximately 75 miles from the Quad Cities International Airport (Moline, IL) and 70 miles from the Greater Peoria Regional Airport (Peoria, IL).
WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,267): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its metropolitan campus in Moline, IL

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
